This may Finally end the BCS

I hate the BCS. I would rather there not be an "undistputed National Champion" that the current college system. I would love to go back to the old bowl system where #1 and #2 may or may not get to face each other.

This day in football had me laughing all night!!!!! #1 Ranked Team Loses (Mizzou Or WVU) #2 Team loses (WVU or Mizzou). Now who is left to play for the title???? Looks like Ohio State will still get there. But who are they going to play? Georgia? Gee they could not even win the SEC. LSU? They had 2 losses. Mizzou?? Kansas?? They could not win the Big 12. Oklahoma??? That is another 2 loss team. I love it.

Now if I was a betting man (More importantly, if I knew WHERE and HOW to place this bet) I would place my $$ on LSU v Ohio State for the Title. But who know what the great computer will say.All I can say is that I see a college playoff sytem from this within 5 years at the most. Mark my words.

NFC Champions???

It is a bit early but the Dallas Cowboys are now 11-1. The only loss at this point is to the juggernaut know as the Patriots. Last night, the Cowboys knocked of the GB Packers.

Yes, I know that the Packers were without a lot of their key defenders.

Yes, I know that the Packers lost their All-Universe QB early in the game.

Yes, I know there were a number of questionable calls.

But, the end results is still Dallas won.

Injuries are a part of the game. They always have been, they always will be. And the way Brett Favre was playing, him getting injured may have helped the Pack. And questionable calls have always been and always will be part of the game. What this is more about is where the Cowboys are now compared to all other Cowboy teams.

Tony Romo has set the single season record for Dallas QB’s throwing touchdowns. More than Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Rodger Staubach. No other Cowboy team has won 11 games after 12. Terrell Owens has set the single season Cowboy record for receiving touchdowns.

And more records will fall before the season is out.

What does this mean right now? Not much.  Does this put Dallas in the Superbowl? No. Does it give Dallas their first playoff win since 1996. No.

But it does give Dallas the inside track to home feild throughout the playoffs. It does give confidence.

And it has sure been a fun season. I picked Dallas to go 10 - 6 at the beginning of the year, a wildcard appearence and even one playoff win. Right now, I am ready to pack my bags for Arizona. But it is not a done deal……YET.

A Historic Win

The Dallas Cowboys are 10-1 for the first time in their storied history. What does this mean in the grand scheme of things???

Well, let’s look at this…

  • From 1966 to 1985, they made the playoffs 18 years out of 20.
  • From 1991 to 1999, they made the playoffs 8 years out of 9.
  • They had an NFL record of 20 consecutive winning seasons.
  • They have played in a record number of NFC Championship Games (14).
  • They have won a record number of NFC Championship Games / Superbowl appearances (8)
  • They have won a record 5 Superbowls (Record Shared with the Pittsburg Steelers and the San Francisco 49er’s)

Not too bad. Never in their history have they started out 10 – 1. We are seeing something special. How far can they go? How far will they go? Only Time will tell, but as of now, I see only one team in the NFC as a threat. They will find out who has the edge in the NFC November 29th when the Green Bay Packers come to town.

There are five games left. Do I have any concerns??

  • I would still like to see a bit more of a pass rush
  • Does Tony Romo look a bit hesitant or afraid to run since the he “tweaked” his leg a while back? Am I seeing things?
  • They just did not look good in this win. I know they won by 31 points. I know they did not give up any touchdowns. But I still felt they could have been sharper, crisper, cleaner. It does not take much work to beat the JETS. I think Dallas would have had to work harder to have lost than they did in this win

Yes, I know I am asking for perfection, but perfection is what it will take to win the Superbowl. Nothing short of perfection. The Patriots are that good. I watched part of the MNF game this last week against the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots scored at will. I have seen offensive drills without defenses on the field that had more trouble moving the ball than the Patriots did. It was a frightening experience. And the worse part about it was that none of it was overly exciting or dramatic. It was just grind, grind, grind. Score, Score, Score.

Cowboys lead the NFC East by 2 ½ games. They are tied for lead in the NFC. They have the 2nd best record in football. We will know much more in exactly one more week.

Congratulations to Mike Madona. On the night that Dallas honors you for your records, you decide to thank Dallas back by scoring the game tying goal. Good Luck and have a great season.
